Martini Remo
Remo Martini (Heks 1917 – 2002 Diest) Painter, draftsman, graphic artist, illustrator, sculptor, assemblage artist. Licentiate in Romance Philology. Self-taught in the visual arts. Designer of, among other things, bas-reliefs constructed from mechanical elements and salvaged objects. Debuted in 1961 with wood reliefs and assemblages, which were his first explorations into the world of object paintings. Joined Phases in 1963, whose orientation was magical-poetic. Evolved from assemblages of found objects to designing lead 'boxes', eventually arriving at working with wood that was subsequently painted. Thus, he worked in the tradition of V. Gentils and C. Van Breedam, among others. Also produced wrought iron works. From the press: 'His art is rooted in rituals and legends and generally achieves the universal in its sacred and timeless form.
