van Waning Martin
Martin van Waning or Gijsbertus Martinus Wilhelmus Franciscus van Waning was a Dutch artist born in The Hague in 1889 and died in Dokkum in 1972. He was a sculptor, graphic artist, medalist, painter, draftsman, watercolorist and etcher. The subjects he treated were dune landscapes, figure representations, harbor views, the landscape as a genre, portraits and cityscapes. He was largely self-taught and received further training from C. Dankmeijer, J. van Rhijnnen and W. de Zwart. He was a member of the Frisian Art Circle. (shin)
