De Bievre Marie

Marie De Bievre was a Belgian artist born in Sint-Joost-ten-Node in 1865 and died in Ixelles in 1940. She was a painter and crayon painter. Attended lessons at the Drawing School in Sint-Joost-ten-Node. Received advice and support from various artists to optimize her painting and pastel technique. Became friends with various painters from the Brussels group "Voorwaarts" such as Jan and Pieter Strobbaerts. Mainly painted interiors, studio corners, flowers and still lifes with fruits. Colouristic color palette. Debuted at the “Exposition Générale des Beaux-Arts” in Brussels in 1887. Since 1888, she participated every year in the numerous exhibitions in Brussels by circles such as "Cercle Saint-Luc" and "Cercle des femmes peintres". First personal exhibition with floral compositions in the "Cercle Artistique et Littéraire" in Brussels in 1898. Participated in the Triennial Salons in Ghent in 1883, 1895, 1899, 1902 and 1909, in the Salons in Brussels between 1899 and 1924 and in Liège in 1905. Made her international debut at the “Exposition Universelle Internationale” in Paris in 1900. Gradually evolved towards a free design. Also participated in the Salon d'automne in the Studio room in Brussels in 1917. Work in the Museum in Brussels. Mentioned in BAS II and Two centuries of signatures of Belgian artists.
