Ysewijn Marcel

Marcel Ysewijn is a Belgian painter and graphic artist, born in Lokeren in 1921. He received his first training with P. Gorus and then studied painting and graphics at the Academy in Ghent under the guidance of Jos Verdegem and H. Malfait (1941-1945). ). He ventured far into abstraction, but returned to figuration. He realized figures, domestic scenes, compositions and still lifes. He was professionally active as a decorative painter (1947-1981). In 1956 he was selected for the East Flanders Provincial Prize for Painting. He took part in the Four Years' Salon in Ghent in 1954, in 'The bread in Belgian art' in 1979, 'The Animism in Belgian art' in 1982, in the Kunstgalerie De Vuyst in Lokeren, in the exhibition 'Painters van de Zee', in the church in Vinkem in 1989, at 'Old, Modern and Contemporary Art' in Brussels in 1990, at 'Arts from Belgium' in Göteborg/Sweden in 1995, at a group exhibition in the Augustijnenklooster in Ghent in 1998 ; he exhibited in the gallery Vyncke-Van Eyck in Ghent in 1956 and 1962, in the gallery Parnasse in Ghent in 1956, in the gallery Foncke in Ghent in 1967. His works were purchased by the State in 1966 and 1968/1969. He is also sometimes listed as YSEWYN, Marcel. He is mentioned in BAS II and Two centuries of signatures of Belgian artists. (piron)
