Luyckx Benny
Benny Luyckx is a contemporary Belgian artist, born in 1965. He is a painter and draughtsman. He studied drawing at the Academy in Sint-Niklaas and painting at the KSAK in Antwerp. In the early years he focused mainly on realistic figures and (self-)portraits. Since 2007 he has been a drawing teacher at the Academy (SASK) in Sint-Niklaas, where he is also a member of the exhibition team and acts as co-curator. His work evolved from meticulous realism to more free, expressive and intuitive paintings in which colour, movement and layered structures play a central role. He draws inspiration from everyday observations and from the human body as a carrier of emotion. His oeuvre includes drawings, paintings and mixed techniques. He took part in the exhibition “Pas de Deux” in De Vierkante Zaal in Sint-Niklaas, and more recently exhibited in Knokke, Beernem and Ghent, including at PAK (2023), Morbee Gallery (2023) and Zebrastraat (2024).
