Belgische kunstschilder Louis De Maeyer

De Maeyer Louis (LOD)

Louis De Maeyer, who also signed as LOD, was a Belgian artist born in Berchem near Antwerp in 1903 and died in 1981 in Terneuzen, the Netherlands. He was a painter who studied at the Academy and at the Higher Institute in Antwerp, led by Opsomer (1920 - 1926). His early works were influenced by Is. Opsomer. Light and matter are key in his works. Around the 1930s, a series of dark portraits with light concentration on face and hands emerged. In the 40s the light spread over the entire grainy surface. The color is then clear and warm. From 1954, powerfully constructed types are created that replace the portraits. After the intimistic portraits and the expressionist nudes, surreal landscapes, painted very smoothly and often in bright colors, follow up. (PIRON)
