Clesse Louis

Louis Clesse was a Belgian artist, born in Ixelles in 1889 and died in Ixelles in 1961. He was a painter and etcher. He trained at the Academy in Ixelles. He then worked in the decoration studio of P. Hermanus. He created realistic and impressionistic landscapes, still lifes, harbor views and portraits. In the summer he worked in Oudergem and from 1932 he regularly stayed in Oudenburg, from where he explored and painted the coast, the port, the countryside, the villages and Bruges. Louis Clesse was a founding member of the Association of Belgian Professional Artists of the Cercle d'Art in Ixelles. We find his work in the Museums in Brussels, Schaarbeek, Ixelles, Ostend and Charleroi. He is listed in the Lexicon of West Flemish visual artists v, BAS I and Two centuries of signatures of Belgian artists. (Piron)
