Brunin Léon

Léon Brunin (pseudonym Léon van de Meuter) was a Belgian artist born in Antwerp in 1861 and died there in 1949. He was a painter and engraver. Education at the Academy in Antwerp led by P. Beaufaux and C. Verlat. In 1883 co-founder of the art circle "If I Can". Realized genre scenes, figures, interiors and animals. Realistic design, influenced by H. De Braekeleer. His subjects were roughly painted with an abundant reproduction of details, with as many shades of color and lighting effects as possible. His palette gradually brightened. From 1886 he was a teacher at the Academy in Antwerp. Mentioned in BAS I, II and Two centuries of signatures of Belgian artists.
