Ligny Charles
Charles Ligny was a Belgian artist, born in Mons in 1812 and died in Ixelles in 1889. He was a painter, watercolorist, and architect, and studied at the Academy in Mons. He created landscapes and city views and settled in Brussels. He exhibited at the Salon in Brussels between 1854 and 1881 and participated in the Salon in Ghent in 1874 with The Green Road and Pond of Boiseilles. He was a member and for some time chairman of the Société Royale Belge des Aquarellistes. His works can be found in the museums of Antwerp (Terhulpen, 1879) and Kortrijk (The Entrance to the Caves of Han, 1847). He is mentioned in BAS II and in Two Centuries of Signatures of Belgian Artists. (Piron)
