Nolens Leonard

Leonard Nolens or in full Leonard Helena Sylvain Nolens is a Belgian artist who was born in 1947 in Bree. He is a Flemish poet, translator and diarist. After graduating from secondary school, Nolens followed an interpreter-translator training at the Higher Institute for Translators and Interpreters in Antwerp. From Antwerp he has been working as a freelance translator since 1968 and is editor of the experimental magazine Labris from 1969 to 1973. Nolens is married and has two sons. He is the father of the writer David Nolens.  Nolens debuted in 1969 with the poetry collection Orpheushands. He is a romantic, often writes about love and the way to escape from identity. His early work is characterized as baroque, experimental poems. Over the years, his work becomes more austere and takes on a more parlando-like tone. Common themes in Nolens' work are youth, women, loneliness and alcohol. Nolens is considered one of the most important living poets from the Dutch language area. (Wikipedia)
