Lanckneus Leo (Leon)

Leo (Leon) Lanckneus was a Belgian artist who was born in Leuven in 1889 and who died in Bruges in 1968. He was a painter, draftsman and printmaker. Training at the Academy in Leuven under the direction of A. Delaunois. Realized (Bruges) cityscapes, rural village views, compositions with masks, mythological figures and also delivered some abstract works. His subjects processed in a slightly expressionistic way. His works usually reflect a certain melancholy and drama. Published the map Bruges, 24 original lithos. In 1999 he became a drawing teacher at the Royal Athenaeum in Bruges, later also at the RNS and from 1936 to 1949 he was an inspector plastic arts in the state education system.
