Laermans Roland

Roland Laermans (Tienen 1937 - 1997 Tienen). Painter. Education at the Academy in Tienen under Mil Crabbé (1952-1954 and 1961-1963), and at the Academy in Leuven under Theo Humblet, Jan Cobbaert, and Jos Vanbekbergen (1958-1961). Primarily creates figures, but also sporadically paints landscapes from the Hageland and Haspengouw. Intimate and sometimes expressionistic figurative tendency. From the press: 'R.L.'s figures are folk types, yet they possess something of the faint romanticism of dreamers. They are sensitive people who, in fact, passively endure life and perhaps melancholically yearn for an ideal world without lifting a finger themselves to make that world a reality.
