Knaepen Armand
Armand Knaepen was a Belgian artist, born in Walshoutem in 1887 and died in Tienen in 1982. He was a painter, draftsman and graphic artist. He trained as a teacher and took evening courses at the drawing school in Tienen, under the supervision of the sculptor J. Marin (1913-1919). He developed self-taught. He realized landscapes (Haspengouw), Tienen town views, beguinage views, religious subjects, interiors, figures, character heads and nudes. He evolved from realistic design with a sense of play of light and mysticism to expressionism. Paint paste was applied generously. Sometimes he also leaned towards phantasmagoria. In 1920 Armand Knaepen became a teacher at the drawing school in Tienen and in 1922 a drawing teacher at the Atheneum in Tienen. The Tiense Tekenacademie bears his name. His work can be found in the Prentenkabinet in Brussels. He is mentioned in CRICK, BAS I and Two centuries of signatures of Belgian artists. (Piron)
