Kennis Ignace
Ignace Kennis was a Belgian artist, born in Mechelen in 1888 and died in Mechelen in 1973. He was educated at the Academy in Mechelen under the direction of Rosier and at the School of Fine Arts in South Kensington/England. He realized interiors, landscapes, religious and biblical scenes and portraits full of character. From the press: “He approaches with the utmost sensitivity the souls of men, the silent poetry of the mild expression of his humble and deeply religious life. He prefers to choose his subjects in the sublime moments of Catholic worship. He knows how to express those touching moments in the most subtle way with spiritual delight. The light, mauve color makes the places seem sanctified, the air embalmed by the rising incense smoke and the human figures transfigured as celestial apparitions at the reception of God.” (1930 He was a teacher at the Academy in Mechelen. He signed with 'Jan Kennis'. Ignace Kennis is mentioned in BAS I. (Piron)
