Belgische kunstschilder Karel De Bondt

De Bondt Karel

Karel De Bondt was a Belgian artist born in 1888 in Evergem who died in 1973 in Drongen. He was a painter, draftsman and watercolorist. Education at the Academy in Ghent. Painted landscapes, genre scenes, portraits, religious and allegorical compositions. He settled in Sint-Martens-Latem in 1919 and then lived in Afsnee and Drongen. Often found inspiration along the banks of the Lys. From the beginning he used a luministic style with a nervous streak and spicy colours, but also painted gloomy works that sometimes come across as melancholy. From the press: “He is a fascinating observer of rural life. He remains one of the most important Leie painters” and “K.D.B. speaks a language without detours. His touch is spontaneous in impressions in which reality turns unvarnished into poetry.” Mentioned in Two centuries of signatures of Belgian artists. Source: Piron.
