Belgische schilder Kallist Lode Fimmers

Fimmers Kallist Lode

Kallist Lode Fimmers was a Belgian artist born in Antwerp in 1906 and died in Tongerlo in 1969. He was a Kannunik-Norbertine. He was a painter, draftsman and wood engraver. Withdrew to the Norbertine Abbey in Tongerloo. Drew many portraits of people from his environment: a gardener, a farmer, some boys. Also covered many religious topics: compositions, biblical scenes, images of saints. In terms of styling, influences from Toorop are sometimes noticeable. He also brought landscapes from his travels. From the press about his woodcuts: “They indicate a delicate mystical feeling and also a rough and tough - I would almost say primitive - understanding of form. This rather surprising combination of abstract and concrete elements gives his wood blocks a very special character.” (S. Pierron) Mentioned in CRICK, BAS I and Two centuries of signatures of Belgian artists. Source: Paul Piron, The Belgian visual artists of the 19th to 21st century
