Vanpaemel Jules
Jules Vanpaemel was a Belgian artist who was born in Blankenberge in 1896 and who died in Sauvagemont in 1968. He was an architect, etcher, printmaker and draftsman. Education in architecture and drawing at the Academy in Ghent, under the direction of G. Minne. Worked as an architect in Blankenberge and Brussels from 1927 to 1935. Developed from 1928 into a talented etcher. He was mainly inspired by the landscapes of the Flemish polder region and Brabant Wallon, but he also etched satirical and imaginative compositions such as De Toren van Babel, in which hundreds of picturesque details, symbols and characters are performed. His oeuvre includes many drawings and 285 engravings. From 1951 to 1965 he taught drawing and graphics at the Academy in Bergen. Work in the Print Room in Brussels.
