Jules Montigny Belgische kunstschilder

Montigny Jules

Jules Montigny (Julius, Jules Léon) was a Belgian painter born in 1840 and died in 1899. He studied at the academy in Brussels and in the studio of H. Dillens. He preferred landscapes, scenes with horses and cattle and the farmer in his field. He liked the effects of rain, puddles on field roads, the night's rest and the freshness of autumn mornings. His works reflect serenity, a sad poetry and sometimes a certain melancholy. He is considered to be one of the important figures of the School of Tervuren. (Piron, RKD)
