Gonthier Jules

Jules Gonthier was a Belgian artist who was born in Tubize in 1907 and who died in Bruges in 1968. He was a painter, watercolorist, draftsman, etcher and designer of ship models. Training at the Academy in Ghent. Spent his youth in Normandy and the special atmosphere typical of this region determined his entire career as an artist. He also found his inspiration in the Kempen, by the sea and in Bruges. Witnessed a poetic soul and leaned towards both impressionism and expressionism. Settled in Bruges in 1945. Founded in 1946, together with Léon De Koninck and Maurits Dousselaere, the Kunstkring 46.
