Schilderijen kopen van de Belgische kunstschilder Jozef Zabeau

Zabeau Jozef

Jozef Zabeau was a Belgian artist born and died in Liège (1901-1978). He was a painter and gouachist. Professionally he was a dentist. He attended evening courses at the Academy in Liège, but was largely self-taught. He was friends with Scauflaire and Caron. In 1939 he became acquainted with the studio of P. Daxhelet. His debut started in 1945. All his works were painted in his studio. He found his inspiration in the folklore of his popular Liège native district (festivities, circuses and legends) and in the simple people who lived there. He painted portraits, nudes, landscapes, still lifes, religious subjects, festive scenes and folkloric subjects. He was initially influenced by Impressionism, but soon evolved into Expressionism, where the influences of naive and folk art are noticeable. It had a powerful design with clearly defined lines. From 1967 his color palette became richer. He gave up his job as a dentist in 1972 and from then on devoted himself exclusively to gouache painting. He lived in France and Spain. He exhibited with APIAW until 1958, with the Cercle Royal des Beaux-Arts in Liège from 1954 to 1975. His work can be found in the Museums in Liège and Verviers, among other places. He is mentioned in BAS I and Two centuries of signatures of Belgian artists. (piron)
