Vinck Jozef

Jozef Vinck was a Belgian artist who was born in Berchem/Antwerp in 1900 and who died in 1979 in Mortsel. He was a painter. Education at the Academy and at the Higher Institute in Antwerp under F. Hens. From 1922 regularly participated in the salons of Kunst van Heden. Belonged to those who preferred the poetically sensitive rendering of the simple inspiration of nature and the everyday environment to the experiment. Together with A. Dasnoy, A. Van Dyck, A. Vanderlick, W. Van Overstraeten, he belongs to the movement that has been called animism. He mainly painted in small format and is the painter in muted tonalities of intimate landscapes and views of Antwerp and its suburbs. Also painted figures, marines, still lifes. In 1942 and 1943 he took part in the 'Animists' exhibition at the Apollo gallery in Brussels. From 1953 undertook several trips to England, Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, France and Spain. Was tempted to abstraction around 1956-1959. Became an honorary member of Kunst van Heden. Was a teacher at the Academies in Mortsel and Antwerp (from 1943) and at the Higher Institute in Antwerp (1947-1966). Work in the Museums in Antwerp, Leuven, Liege, Mechelen and Ixelles.
