Jozef Mees is a Belgian visual artist. He was born in 1898 in Ghent and died in 1987 in De Pinte. This painter, architect and interior decorator receives his training at the Academy in Ghent with Jean Delvin.The early work of Jozef Mees is still animistic between the two world wars. In the 1940s he painted monumental figures and structured landscapes.From 1952 he resolutely opts for the abstract. In the sixties he did not shy away from the use of matter. The work is colorful and layered. His lavis are frivolous and lyrical. In the 70s evolves into highly structured compositions.
