Mees Jozef

Jozef Mees is a Belgian visual artist. He was born in 1898 in Ghent and died in 1987 in De Pinte. This painter, architect and interior decorator receives his training at the Academy in Ghent under direction of Jean Delvin. The early work of Jozef Mees is still animistic between the two world wars. In the 1940s he painted monumental figures and structured landscapes. From 1952 he resolutely chooses for abstract painting. His work is colorful and layered. His lavis are frivolous and lyrical. In the 70s he evolves into highly structured compositions.
