Joseph Gérard Adrien Van Luppen , Belgische schilder

Van Luppen Joseph

Joseph Gérard Adrien Van Luppen was a Belgian artist who was born in Antwerp in 1834 and who died in Deurne in 1891. He was a painter. Education at the Academy in Antwerp under J. Jacobs, later in Paris under Th. Rousseau. Belongs, like Th. Fourmois, F. Lamorinière et al., to the realistic school of landscape art. Like F. Lamorinière, whose work he closely approximates, later impressionist-oriented criticism painted him as a traditionalist painter. However, his work deserves a more nuanced appreciation. Traveled to Germany, Switzerland, Italy. In 1880 successor of J. Jacob as teacher of landscape painting at the Academy in Antwerp. Work in the Museums in Antwerp, Ghent, Liège, Brussels, Lier, Leuven, Kortrijk. Mentioned in BAS II and Two centuries of signatures of Belgian artists (Piron)
