Van Houdt Jos
Jos Vanhoudt is a Belgian artist born in Antwerp in 1928. He is a painter, draftsman, graphic artist (seriesgraphy and lithography) and occasional sculptor. He received his education at the Academy in Antwerp under the direction of K.J. Van Den Heuvel, R. Cornelissen, J. Van Ael. He had great admiration for Alfred Ost. He realized river and harbor views, but also painted figures, portraits and flower arrangements. From the press: “J.V.H. is mainly addicted to the water and certainly the Scheldt. Without wishing to be an epigone of previous great Scheldt painters such as Frans Hens and Dis Van Raemdonck, he nevertheless works in the tradition of these pioneers” and “J.V.H. paints the raw, rough and lively Scheldt in all its facets, in every season, at every pictorially favorable moment. The water, the air, the people, the machines, the ships grow into a sometimes grand synthesis in his work”. Jos Vanhoudt is mentioned in Two centuries of signatures of Belgian artists. (piron)
