Belgische kunstenaar Jos Schippers

Schippers Jos

Jos (Joseph) Schippers was a Belgian artist who was born in Antwerp in 1868 and who died in Deurne in 1950. Jos was the grandson of the painter Charles Schippers. Education at the Academy in Antwerp under the direction of Brunin and P. Van Havermaet, from 1893 at the Higher Institute in Antwerp. He was a painter, etcher of portraits, animals, figures, marines and landscapes. The monkeys are his favorite animals which he associated with human characteristics in a wide variety of scenes, all painted in a realistic style. As a great admirer of Charles Verlat, Schippers enjoyed his training at the Antwerp Academy under the direction of Leon Brunin and Pieter Van Havermaet. Jos Schippers died on December 31, 1950 in Deurne. Mentioned in BAS I and Two centuries of signatures of Belgian artists. (Piron)
