Minne Joris
Joris Minne was a Belgian artist who was born in Ostend in 1897 and who died in Antwerp in 1988. He was a sculptor, draftsman, graphic artist and illustrator. Education at the academy in Berchem/Antwerp. Debuted as an impressionist watercolorist and slowly evolved towards expressionism. Moved from painting to the graphic arts. Co-founder of the Lumière Group (1919) and the De Vijf Group. Has illustrated numerous literary works since 1930. Began to sculpt in marble, wood, copper ca. 1939. Usually designed female figures depicted up to knee height. In doing so he forced the anatomy within the limits of an undulating movement in the form, the drawing of which remained related to his graphic work.
