
Hendricus Jurres Johannes
Johannes Hendricus Jurres was born in Leeuwarden 1875 and died in Amsterdam in 1946. He lived and worked in Amsterdam since 1890 and took trips to Italy, Switzerland, and Spain. Pupil at the Rijksnormaalschool voor Kunstnijverheid (1890) and the Rijksacademie in Amsterdam (1882-1899) under the direction of A. Allebé. He painted, drew and etched mainly historical scenes but he was also an excellent painter of impressionistic style figures. He was a professor at the Rijksacademie in Amsterdam and a member of Arti et Amecitiae and Pulchri Studio.
