Kunstwerken van de Spaans-Belgische kunstenaar Joan Marti

Marti Joan

Joan Marti was a Spanish-Belgian artist born in Reus (Spain) in 1922 and died in 2002 in Saint-Gilles/Brussels. He was a painter and graphic artist. His parents fled Spain due to the civil war and settled in Belgium around 1936 with their then thirteen year old son. Took evening courses for four years at the Academy in Saint-Gilles/Brussels. Was a professional mechanic-fitting worker and elements of mechanics often come back in his works. His references to the machines betray a very good sense of humor, but also a certain pity for people, who are often unintentionally at the mercy of the radar work of industrial technology. His compositions reflect fantasty, symbolism but often also poetry. Exhibited for the first time around 1950 and from 1970 regularly in the Isy Brachot gallery. Was a member of the Jecta Circle in Brussels. Listed in BAS II and Two centuries of signatures by Belgian artists. (PIRON)
