Hermkens Jeroen
Jeroen Hermkens is a Dutch artist born in St. Anthonis/Netherlands in 1960. He was educated at the Academy of Visual Arts in Utrecht and Atelier lithografique Champfleury in Paris. In 1996 he received the Dutch Graphics Prize and in 2006 he was named artist of the year in the Netherlands. When confronted with Jeroen's lithographs and paintings, you succumb to the power of the expression, the deliberate, powerful sweep and the subtle choice of colours. Jeroen's works can be seen at home and abroad, including exhibitions in Vienna, New York, New Orleans, Beauvais and Bruges. In the Netherlands, his work has been exhibited in Museum Flehite in Amersfoort, Museum de Buitenplaats in Eelde, Museum Rijswijk, Slot Zeist, the Singer in Laren and the Centraal Museum in Utrecht. For his inspiration, he regularly travels abroad to find new motifs in nature: old railway bridges, empty factories and abandoned quarries. In his art we clearly notice the interaction between his paintings and his graphics. In 2000, CNN showed a film about his work worldwide. Since 2010 he has also focused on making portraits and nudes. Around 2020 he ventured on new challenges: murals and horses. (www.jeroen-hermkens.nl, BT)
