Moons Jef

Jef Moons, or Jozef Moons, was a Belgian artist born in 1920 in Kalfort/Puurs and died in 1969 in Mechelen. He was a painter, draftsman, etcher, lithographer and sculptor. Self-taught. Was working within the Kunstkring 't Vierkant in Puurs. His oeuvre is usually described as post-symbolic. From the press: "J. M. can be characterized as the painter of loneliness. In his strikingly gloomy colored canvases, everything superfluous has always been kept out, as a result of which the central figure happens to appear in an unreal landscape, with some sparse trees, a dark sky, possibly a water sun ..."(1968). Died after a car accident in Kalfort. (PIRON)
