Maes Jean Pierre (Guynelly)

Jean Pierre Maes of Guynelly (pseudonym since 1985) is a Belgian artist who was born in 1945 in Ostend. He is a painter, draftsman, pastelist, graphic artist, stained glass designer and decorator. Education at the Academy in Ostend (1957-1962) and at Sint-Lucas in Ghent (1965-1968), where he himself became a teacher in 1970. Between 1970 and 1985, he perfected his skills in graphic arts in private studios in Flanders and the Netherlands. Evolved from figuration with, among other things, allegorical compositions in a baroque design (1975) to geometric abstract work, but in 1980 he opted back for figuration and painted a series of works with the world of the child as subject. From 1970 to 1975 he was involved in idea projects around glass environments, from 1975 on designing stained glass windows. From 1987, he also devoted himself to monumental wall painting.
