Laenen Jean

Jean Laenen was a Belgian artist who was born in Mortsel in 1881 and died in 1965. He was a painter. Worked in Ixelles/Brussels. Realized (church) interiors, genre scenes, interiors with characters, portraits, character heads, still lifes. Was able to make optimal use of light effects. Some titles of works: The churchgoers, The card players, Peasant woman, Kempische farm, Interior with peasant couple at the fireplace. Exhibited, among others, at the Second December Salon of the National Association of Painters and Sculptors of Belgium in Brussels in 1939. Two portraits in the collection of the Tongerlohuis in Roosdaal/The Netherlands. Work "Still lifes with melons" (1919) auctioned by the Horta Hall in Brussels in 2011. Works depicted in the Annuaire des Beaux-Arts 1 (1929-1930), p. 1, in Annuaire iv (1935-1936), p. 94.
