Hoeterickx Emile

Emile Hoeterickx was a Belgian artist, born in Brussels in 1853 and died in Ixelles in 1923. He was a painter and watercolourist. He received his education at the Academy in Brussels (1865-1870 and 1877-1878). He made his debut as a decorator at the Muntschouwburg in Brussels. He painted cityscapes, landscapes, marines and scenes with characters. His color palette was luministic, his design realistic and refined. He also worked as a designer of furniture and works of art. He was co-founder of the Circle L'Essor (1880) and member of the Cercle des Aquarellistes in Brussels. From 1891 he taught decorative arts at the Ecole de l'Art Industriel in Brussels. Work by Emile Hoeterinckx can be found in the Museums in Antwerp, Ixelles and Tournai. He is mentioned in BAS I, II and Two centuries of signatures of Belgian artists. (Piron)
