Hick Jean

Jean Hick was a Belgian artist, born in Seraing in 1923 and died in Liège in 2011. He was a painter, watercolourist, pastellist, draughtsman and musician. He first studied composition and violin, but later chose to devote himself to the visual arts. He studied at the Académie Ranson and under S.W. Hayter in Paris (1961). He began as a figurative artist but soon evolved towards lyrical abstraction. His lyrically abstract works sometimes evoke landscapes or seascapes, while others display a more geometrically abstract structure. From the press: “Technically, his abstract work is related to Turner and the Impressionists. He paints imaginary landscapes in which the influences of music, film and the Orient can be felt.” From 1960 onwards, he was a member of the APIAW in Liège. He exhibited, among other places, at the Print Cabinet in Liège in 2007. His work can be found in the Museum of Liège. He is listed in BAS II and Two Centuries of Signatures of Belgian Artists (Piron).
