Kunstwerken van de Belgische kunstenaar Liévin Herremans

Herremans Liévin

Liévin (Lieven) Herremans was a Belgian painter, born in Bruges in 1858 and died in Drogenbos in 1931. He studied at the Academy in Antwerp under the guidance of C. Verlat (1885–1886) and further perfected his training in Paris and Italy. He painted figures, female nudes, genre scenes, marines, harbor views and landscapes. His works show an impressionistic-symbolist character, with soft pastel shades often dominating his palette. He gained particular fame for his nudes and was awarded a gold medal in Amsterdam in 1907. His work can be found, among others, in the Museum of Antwerp. He is listed in the Lexicon of West Flemish Visual Artists II, BAS I and Two Centuries of Signatures of Belgian Artists (Piron).
