Hermans, Flor
Florent Hermans, pseudonym: Flor, is a Belgian artist, born in Tremelo in 1953. He is a painter, draughtsman and sculptor. He began as a self-taught artist, focusing on drawing and painting. Later, he studied sculpture at the Hagelandse Academie in Aarschot.
He paints and draws elegantly stylised female nudes and expressive, meticulously rendered depictions of birds. From the press: “We must note with admiration that the work of F.H. is sustained by an intense sense of connection with both humans and animals. Possessing an exceptional eye for detail and through the patient observation of human beings in society or birds of prey in nature, all this attests to the fundamental qualities needed to capture these subjects in colour and form.” (F. De B., 2004)
He signs his work as “Flor”. Around 1980, he exhibited regularly at the De Zwarte Panter gallery in Antwerp. Among his public works are the bronze sculpture De Geboorte at the Tremelo library, and the monumental piece Generatiebrug at the Heilige Familie retirement home in Heist-op-den-Berg (2002).
Flor Hermans became a member of the cultural council in Tremelo and co-founded and chaired the art collective Kunstkring Gesigneerd. He works in Baal. He is listed in Kunstenaars en Galerijen, fifth edition (2004), in BAS I and in Twee eeuwen signaturen van Belgische kunstenaars. (Piron)
