van der Poll Herbert
Herbert van der Poll, or Daniël Herbert van der Poll, was a Dutch painter, draftsman, graphic artist, lithographer, designer and teacher at the Academy. He was in good acquaintance with the predator keeper Dirk Eykendaal. Van der Poll made anatomical studies of lions, tigers, birds of paradise and other animals from Artis, who went to the Zoological Laboratory after their death. At the time, this was housed in the Aquarium building and was led by the famous zoologist Dr. Max Weber. (RKD)
