Vandermoere Henri
Henri Vandermoere is a Belgian artist, born in Drongen in 1939. He is a painter and watercolorist. Autodidact. He has been exhibiting since 1964. He debuted with self-portraits, still lifes, and interiors, evolving into a style reminiscent of fine painting, with a preference for interiors featuring doors, windows, walls, and fragments of buildings. Characters in his later work are taboo. His work reflects an increasingly strong internalization. He seeks the essence of things and masterfully plays with silence and light. This gives his work an impression of abstraction and refined minimalism, achieving a spiritual and serene dimension that invites contemplation. From the press: "H.V. started in the mid-'60s with somber neo-expressionism, thick in pâte. Over the years, he transitioned to a more colorful and refined palette" and "H.V. plays with light and shadow. His works are sunny, relaxing, with warm-feeling colors" and "H.V. loves intense southern sunlight. His condensed compositions depict minimal architectural details, invariably featuring a brightly painted wooden surface. In a refined manner, the painter captures contrasting shadows on shutters, doors, or windows in his work." (1996) In his most recent works, the artist paints objects in a minimalist style. He is listed in BAS II and "Two Centuries of Signatures of Belgian Artists" (Piron).
