Nuyttens Henri
Henri Nuyttens or Hendrik Nuyttens was a Belgian artist who was born in Ghent in 1905 and who died there in 1977. He was a painter and draftsman. Education at the Academy in Ghent under O. Coddron and F. De Boever. In 1934 he won the Five-Year Prize for Drawing. Realized landscapes, city and harbor views, travel impressions, still lifes, interiors, figures, portraits. From the press: 'As a painter of cityscapes, landscapes and interiors, he manages to capture his vision in a striking spontaneous and sensitive touch, while his harbor views are particularly striking through hazy poetry,' and 'H.N. continues the work of A. Baertsoen, as it were, but in lighter tones, somewhat grounded in Opsomer's color range.' (G.V.S.). Was a member of the Circle of Art and Knowledge in Ghent. Participated in the Salons in Ghent, among others. Was a teacher at the Academies in Sint-Niklaas and Ghent. (piron)
