Evenepoel Henri

Henri Evenepoel was a Belgian artist who was born in 1872 in Nice, France and who died in 1899 in Paris, France. He was a Belgian painter, draftsman and etcher. Training at the Drawing School in Sint-Joost-ten-Node, at the Academy and in Crespin's studio in Brussels (1885-1892). In Paris from 1892 further education at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts under V. Galland and student of G. Moreau. Realized portraits, open air scenes, landscapes, figures. Stayed in Algeria in 1897 and 1898. Belongs to the painters who settled in Paris at the end of the 19th century to perfect themselves in the light of the flourishing French painting. In Paris he painted (children's) portraits and cityscapes from sketches and photos. he was particularly fascinated by the solid structure and the color scheme of E. Manet's work. In addition to the French influences, those of H. Leys, L. Dubois and J. Stobbaerts certainly also worked. However, in the works created during his stay in Algeria and during the following year after his return to Paris, the palette was brightened and intensified.
