Buyck Harry

Harry Buyck was a Belgian artist who was born in Antwerp in 1928 and died in Merksem in 2017. He was a painter and draftsman. Largely self-taught, but did follow lessons at the Academy in Ghent under W. Sybrands. Finds his inspiration in his fellow man, whom he catches at home, on the beach or in the cafe and also paints landscapes, beach scenes, nudes, mother-and-child compositions. Expressionist design. From the press: "H.B. mainly looks for the atmosphere of his subjects, albeit that he stays far from the usual themes, but he prefers compositions with figures from everyday life" and "The paintings of H.B. continue the atmosphere of the delightful intimacy of the life of the folk." Price Jozef Muls, prize Guillaume Campo, first prize Noorderkempen and first prize of La Palette Martegale in France. Led the artist café Den Draak in Ghent (1956-1959), was at the basis of the organization of a large number of artistic events in Flanders and supported a whole series of debuting or already established artists.
