Guilmot, Jacques
Jacques Guilmot was a Belgian artist, born in Zinnik in 1927 and deceased in Zinnik in 2005. He was a sculptor and jewellery designer. He was self-taught. He began his career as a stonemason in the quarry of Zinnik.
He employed a refined line and pure geometric design. His works convey subtlety and breathe poetry. He worked in stone, marble and bronze. In 1966, he received a distinction at the Prix de la Jeune Sculpture Belge.
From the press: “J.G. favours finely polished, abstract forms and is only satisfied with a technically perfect finish. Cylindrical discs, spheres and systems belong to his characteristic formal language.” Works by Jacques Guilmot can be found in the collection of the Middelheim Museum in Antwerp, and in the museums of Brussels, Mons and Charleroi.
He is listed in BAS II and Twee eeuwen signaturen van Belgische kunstenaars. (Piron)
