Guiette Jules

Jules Guiette was a Belgian artist, born in Antwerp in 1852 and died in Antwerp in 1901. He was a painter, watercolorist, pastelist and etcher. He was the son-in-law of Alphonse Pecquereau and father of the painter René and the poet Robert Guiette. Jules Guiette was a student of E. Claus and traveled with him to Spain and Algeria (1879). Later he was still a student of E. Van Hoorde. He traveled to Italy in 1887. He mainly realized genre scenes and landscapes, for which he found inspiration in the Ardennes and along the banks of the Semois. He used a luministic color palette. He lived in Brasschaat for some time and was friends with Th. Verstraete. He was a member of the Kunstkring in Antwerp and of the Cercle des Aquafortistes (1880). (Piron)
