Schilderijen kopen van de Belgische kunstschilder Gratien Dendooven

Dendooven Gratien

Gratien Dendooven is a Belgian artist who was born in Lissewege in 1939. He is a self-taught painter.  Brother of the literary expert Lucien Dendooven. Grew up at the farm Groot Ter Doest in Lissewege. Admired Van Hecke's work. First participated in a group exhibition of the West-Flemish Art Circle in 1958. In 1959 he was awarded the Young Belgian Painting Prize. Dealt with, among other things, religious subjects, data from nature, such as a sun or moon landscape, leaves, flowers but also often folkloric subjects such as masks, giants or elements related to rural life. Sometimes leaned close to abstraction in some works. From the press: "Paintings by G.D. reminiscent of the fantastic spirit of Chagall. A world exuberant and whimsical, but above all fascinating. The opulence of this exuberant palette is always presented in a sober framework and often in the same format, so that the canvases can be regarded as different stanzas from the same poem" (1962) and "His canvases initially had something clumsy and naive. Now that times have changed, they no longer seem so clumsy and rather they speak of a clear authenticity and a pristine use of color, a personal and idiosyncratic view of people and things" (1996). Exhibited at the Salon van de West-Vlaamse Kunstkring in 1959, in the Kunstkring Horizon in Heist in 1961, in the Beatrijs room in Eeklo in 1961, in Ter Doest in Lissewege in 1962, in the Korrekelder in Bruges in 1963. From 1994 onwards, the driving force behind the Sculpture Route Lissewege-Bruges. Source: Piron.
