Jacobs Gérard

Gérard Jacobs was a Belgian artist who was born in Antwerp in 1865 and who died in Vlissingen/the Netherlands in 1958. He was a painter and draftsman. Education at the Academy in Antwerp. Painted landscapes, marines, harbor and Scheldt views, interiors, portraits. Realistic design with a special feeling for light effects. In soft tones and fine nuances he tried to capture the right atmosphere of the chosen subject. Loved painting thunderstorms and also loved sunsets. Was married to the painter Josephina Hendrickx. The couple settled in Vlissingen during the First World War. They founded the Kunstgroep Het Zuiden (1920-1942) there and became the founders of Scheldt luminism. Work in the Museum of Antwerp, among others. (piron)
