Goyvaerts Edwig

Edwig Goyvaerts is a contemporary Belgian artist, born in Schriek in 1945. He is a painter, draftsman and watercolorist. He trained at the Academies in Heist-op-den-Berg (1955-1956) and Antwerp (1965-1970). He became a teacher at the Academy in Mechelen in 1970. In the 1970s and 1980s he had a pictorial period, based on the Flemish painting tradition, then in the 1990s he became acquainted with the Mechelen school and evolved into a meditative period in 1998. From the press: “The previous periods merge, the circle is closed.” And further: “His work is internally moving, sober and melancholic, full of morning light or evening twilight, atmosphere is more important to him than the subject.
