Schilderijen kopen van de Brusselse kunstenaar Jean Gouweloos

Gouweloos Jean

Jean Gouweloos was a Belgian artist, born in Brussels in 1868 and passed away in Uccle in 1943. He was a painter, draftsman, and lithographer. He was the brother of Charles Gouweloos. He received his training at the Academy in Brussels under the guidance of J. Portaels between 1873 and 1894. He also apprenticed with the painter-decorator C. Albert and worked at the family printing shop from the age of 16. In 1902, he designed twelve large panels featuring historical scenes and Masonic symbols for the Lodge in Brussels. During World War I, he resided in the Netherlands. As a painter, he created landscapes, marines, but especially female figures, portraits, and nudes. He employed a realistic style with luminist tendencies. According to the press: "His nudes bathe in a pearly light." From 1891, he was a member of the Voorwaarts Group and from 1895 of the Le Sillon Group, where he befriended V. Gilsoul. His work can be found in museums in Brussels, Liège, Antwerp, and Kortrijk. He is listed in BAS I and Two Centuries of Signatures of Belgian Artists. (Piron)
