Melder Gerard
Gerard Melder was a Dutch artist, born in Amsterdam/Netherlands in 1693 and died in Utrecht/Netherlands in 1754. He was a draftsman, watercolourist, painter, miniature painter, copyist, pen artist and etcher. He became famous mainly for his miniatures on Ivory. Initially he copied miniatures by Italian artists. Later he brought paintings by Dou, Van der Werff and Rottenhamer. He drew landscapes with figures and animals, river views and mountain landscapes in Indian ink and watercolor. He also painted portraits (of his contemporaries) in miniature. In 1728 he married Margaretha van Schalkwijk à Velde in Utrecht. (BT)
