Geirnaert Georges (Geo)

Georges (Geo) Geirnaert was a Belgian artist, born and died in Ghent (1874-1955). He was a painter, draftsman, lithographer, engraver and sculptor. He was educated from 1890 at the Academy in Ghent under the guidance of Canneel, Jan Delvin and Louis Van Biesbroeck. He painted and drew nudes, portraits, luministic landscapes, forest views and marines. As a sculptor he designed, among other things, busts, figures and nudes. He was also a gifted pianist. Sometimes he signed with Owel Geirnaert. He descended from a family of lithographers. His father Louis had established a printing business in 1842 and upon his death in 1887 Georges, who was not yet fourteen years old at the time, had to take over the management of the company. He often exhibited together with his daughter Marie-Louise (Miton). He is mentioned in Two centuries of signatures of Belgian artists. (piron)
