
Geerts Jozef
Joseph or Jozef Geerts was a Belgian artist, born in Sint-Niklaas in 1864 and died in Ghent in 1910. He was a civil engineer by training and worked as a chief engineer at the Belgian railways. Since 1869 he was a board member of the Royal Antiquities Society of the Land of Waas, where he was chairman for a short period from 1897 to 1898. In 1873 he became a board member of the Academy of Fine Arts in Sint-Niklaas, where he was director from 1893 to 1896. In 1892 he became a mechanical engineering teacher at the Industrial School of Sint-Niklaas. (BT)
